Baking is a pasttime that is enjoyed by many people, especially at holiday time. If you follow a tradition or want to begin one, baking is a pleasant way to encourage family members to help. Assisting in the production of a final project, especially one as rewarding as a sweet treat, is a fun way to engage the whole family.

When baking in the kitchen, children love to help. Children love to get their hands dirty and help produce something. Encourage children to wash their hands thoroughly first, as the adults do. Keeping food preparation hygienetic is a top priority in any working kitchen.

Begin with a simple sugar cookie recipe that requires some shape cutting with cookie cutters. Children love to roll out dough, use a cookie cutter, and decorate the cookie. When the cookie is baked and cooled, they have an edible art project all their own. Depending on the age of the children, incorporate their help in mixing and measuring ingredients, as well. This helps develop teamwork skills, timing, and hand eye coordination. Children over the age of 5 can break an egg into a bowl and stir.

Unless children are over the age of 10 or so, have an adult remove the hot pans from the oven. Burning fingers or arms is not uncommon. So, therefore, leave the oven chores to an older child or adult.

If other adult family members pitch in, holiday baking can be a very involving and fun family activity. This teamwork effort for fun and sweets can begin in the grocery stores when purchasing all the needed ingredients.
Children can learn that mixing and measuring raw ingredients can be a fun and rewarding challenge.
Even if some treats get burned, valuable lessons are learned and fun can be had by all.

So you want to start a blog. You’ve got a reliable internet provider and you even bought a domain name – good for you! There’s more to running a successful article site than simply typing so take some tips from us on what kind of content to focus on.
Pick a Topic: the key to any great blog is narrow focus. No one wants to follow your stream of thought all day long so instead pick something you’re really passionate about like food or humor or clothing and delve deep. That’s where the good stuff comes out.
Encourage Interaction: even if your only readers are your parents, encourage them to comment and post their own feedback. The more of a blog community it becomes the more it will offer for potential readers in the future.
Hit Hot Topics: Find out what’s being talked about pertaining to your area of expertise and beat it to death. Your take is just as good as anyone else’s so as long as it relates to what you’re already discussing keep it current and topical.

From newlyweds to college students living on their own for the first time, everyone has to start somewhere when it comes to having your own kitchen and doing your own baking. If you-re setting up a kitchen for the first time, make sure you have these baking tools on hand.

Measuring Cups and Spoons
Any given recipe will most likely call for a cup of this or a tablespoon of that. Measuring cups and spoons help to ensure that you put in the right amount of ingredients. It is helpful to have measuring cups for dry and liquid ingredients.

Rolling Pin
If you plan on making cookies, pies or any other dough-based recipe, you will need a rolling pin in order to roll out your dough.

Mixing Bowls
Mixing bowls are used to mix together ingredients before pouring them into pans. They can also double as serving bowls. Ideally, you should have a set of mixing bowls in various sizes.

Spatula
A spatula is great for flipping pancakes, scraping cookies off of baking sheets and serving baked goods like brownies and lasagna.

A Good, Sharp Knife
A high-quality, sharp knife is a good investment. The sharper the knife, the easier it will be to cut through tough items, such as raw potatoes. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: Cookie Mix in a Jar

I have been baking since I was old enough to stand on a chair and follow simple instructions from my parents. As soon as I moved out of my parents home, I excitedly went to the grocery store with the intention of filling my kitchen with the basics. I soon realized that this task would be much more difficult and frustrating than I expected. With so many options, I wanted to take half the grocery store home. Unfortunately, my small budget only allowed me to take the basics home.
My advice to anyone trying to stock up on baking ingredients is, don’t go to the store without a list and a budget.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. Assuming your budget is as small as mine was, start your list off with these essentials: flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. For those with a sweet tooth, be sure to grab vanilla, brown sugar, powdered sugar, and chocolate chips. Then, go to the refrigerator section and pick up some fresh eggs along with unsalted and salted butter. These ingredients will give you hundreds of simple recipes to get started on. I suggest beginning your baking adventures with a warm, delicious batch of chocolate chip cookies.

Everyone loves food, but not everyone loves cooking. Most of the people that claim to dislike cooking or be bad at cooking have simply never tried or been taught. One of my dearest friends grew up in a busy family, so no one ever had time to cook. They ate out every single day and the only thing in their fridge and cabinets was cereal, chips, and restaurant leftovers. At age nineteen, she had never so much as turned on an oven or made a batch of rice crispy treats. She claimed she had no desire to learn how to cook or bake, but one day I dragged her into my kitchen and showed her how to bake chocolate chip cookies. She then realized that when you know what you’re doing, baking is fun and fulfilling. After that, my friend went to culinary school and is currently working in a bakery. If she were here right now writing this, the best advice she could give a first time baker is, don’t be discouraged or embarrassed if you struggle at first. Find a close friend who is willing to help teach you the basics, choose your favorite treat, and start baking!

Baking can be fun, and it can produce delicious food. It can also be a total disaster if you don’t know what you’re doing. Here are some tips for those new to the world of baking.

Following the recipe exactly is key. Always read all the way through the recipe. Make sure you have all of the ingredients, and measuring devices that you need. Unless the recipe calls for cold ingredients, start with all ingredients at room temperature. Never try to substitute ingredients when you’re first learning to bake.

Temperature is very important. Get an oven thermometer. This will ensure that your oven is actually at the temperature you want. Lots of ovens (especially older ones) can be 10 or more degrees off. Ovens can take 20 minutes to reach a steady temperature, so don’t forget to preheat.

All-purpose flour can be used for anything, as the name suggests. However, cake flour really does make better cakes, and bread flours really do make better breads.

Perhaps the most important tip of all: be patient. You might fail. You might fail several times. If your cake falls, or your cookies burn, don’t give up! Try again. You’ll be glad you did.The hits keep comin-: Ingredient Adventuring
